So, it's pretty obvious that the AutoRealm site needs a re-design. All of them do, in fact.
We also have a number of very talented graphics and web design people on these lists. With that in mind, it's time to have a contest to design the new site layout.
Rules
The AutoRealm team must be able to use any designs and images across a number of sites. This means that clip art will have to be original work, or public domain.
There must be an obvious set of links to go between our numerous sites, and they must be separate from any other links on the page (visually). We will need to have several links, encompassing (at a minimum)
- Andy's page
- Sourceforge page
- Tutorials page
- Wiki page
- Yahoo Groups page
Ideally, there should be space for us to add in one or two more.
The design must be something that is easy to use under a variety of conditions. For instance, on the Sourceforge site we will have PHP available. On www.autorealm.org, it will be running under Plone. On the tutorials page, it might be just HTML.
The design must be adaptable to all of these easily.
Design Considerations
- The various sites have different layouts which should not need to dramatically change. For instance, some of them have one column for the page body, some two, and some three. All of them have a common header, and a common footer.
- Different people have differing resolutions on their monitors. Some have wide screens, some have normal, some have big, etc. Ideally, your design should not require a specific resolution, or be best displayed at a specific resolution.
Submission Process
This is a truly challenging process. Edit this contest page, and add your submission name to the list of submissions at the bottom. To do this, you will need to have an account on this wiki.
Once you have added your submission name, follow the link for that submission to create a new page with your contest entry. Make sure to include the following:
- A zip file containing your submission
- Any instructions for the use of the theme
- A screenshot of your submission (optional, but recommended)
- A link to a site that shows your submission in action (optional. Nice, but optional)
- Any comments regarding your submission that you think we should know about (completely optional)
Deadline
October 15, 2007. Submissions will not be accepted after that date.
Other Questions/Answers
- Can we convert open source themes, and use them?
- As long as the license says you can, that's fine. If this is what you've done, though, make sure to include a link back to the original place from which you downloaded the theme.
